Ode to Fruit Trees

I cannot explain my appreciation for backyard fruit trees. The taste of fresh, plump jewels straight from nature is a hard thing to describe. That first heavenly bite into the soft flesh, with juices running down your chin... is a sight to behold. When I left home for the long weekend,  our current bounty was not yet ripe. I wonder what will greet us upon our return!

Impatiently waiting for my FIGS...

Almost perfect pears...

They've got a little suntan!

Fall is coming, and so is our fruit. The only challenge will be deciding what to make with this batch of nature's bounty. I'm thinking breads, tarts, cakes, salads... the possibilities are endless. Of course, you'll get to be a part of the adventure. Stay tuned for Fall Fruit Fun, and have a lovely Labor Day!

I saw your guest post over at Iowa Girl Eats and was wondering if you could tell me more about your trip to Costa Rica- my husband and I were thinking of going to Dominical, Costa Rica this winter but it's a 3 hour drive from the airport. What locations did you visit?

I'm so jealous (in a happy for you way)! My pears (and plumbs and peaches) all get devoured by the squirrels! I swear our pear tree had hundreds of pears and now they're all gone. I think next year I'm going to build a chicken-wire cage around that tree! I am seriously happy you get to enjoy your pears. I hope you make something wonderful with them!
